I have thought about what the ending of this play really meant to the character of Shylock before, and I believe I posted a blog about my thoughts. While I do agree that the others in the courtroom may have been harsh to him, I don't think that they completely drove him to the point of rage as the actor and maker of this video suggest. I think Shylock is supposed to be the Jewish stereotype of the day regardless of how he was treated. The main question plays like this raise is what was the original intents? This also draws attention to how the meaning of the genre of comedy has changed over the years as this contains dark themes when you really think about it.
